Adventures in Meme Hunting

Image
Today's hunt involves the survey/prompt meme, not the picture with words on it variety (I happen to love both meanings of the popular Interwebz word). ...by which he means votes and cheeseburgers.  I took my favorite prompts from every source I could find and compiled this meme! Picture Me This: 1. Something you love 2. Black and white 3. Currently reading 4. Three things 5. Something random 6. A brand 7. Your childhood 8. Something orange 9. Something new

The Year is Now - Read the First Chapter!

Greetings, everyone! It's been a busy week on my end, but you don't want to read about working and...working; you know, the mundane in and outs of life. Enough of that! I am happy to announce that The Year is Now is available on Amazon!  That time I read an excerpt...And since I recorded this before making this post, I'll put an Amazon link below it too (as stated in the video):   Amazon link! I've been on an anime kick lately, so I took a shot at drawing the two leads from my book. I am thrilled with the results.  Elly is on the left, and Major Pierson is on the right. Because I'm cool like that, here is a sneak peak at The Year is Now. I've uploaded the first chapter! Star Spangled City

Image
I had a nice vacation last week--It was mostly a “staycation” if you want to put a trendy spin on just staying home, bumming around, and catching up on hobbies. There was one day I did not stay home! I fulfilled a long time childhood dream I’ve had all these years! I went to Washington DC. The thing that shocked me the most about it was the fact that the people were friendly and extremely nice. I was expecting the aloof coldness often associated with large cities. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was. If you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it. The monuments are only half the fun. The museums are amazing. I got to see the original flag that had inspired our national anthem. It was in a dark display lit with what looked like black lights. The Air and Space museum has the original space suits worn by Neal Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (although Neal's suit was not on display at the time because it was undergoing preservation stu...

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee

Image
Just call me the cliché writer who likes to go to [ insert your favorite hipster coffee café here ] and write. There is a reason this phenomenon is so popular: it works. Whether you do the muse thing or not, there is something nestled within the creative mind that thrives on coffee, especially when coupled with a relaxed café setting.  Coffee aside, I think part of it has to do with the fact that you’re outside of your regular environment, and your mind is challenged because it is coping with new sights and sounds. I’ve done some of my best writing in little cafes! I suppose we could get scientific and talk about the properties of caffeine (I imagine that 90% of the increased flow of writing is due to the stimulant). You can read all about caffeine on Wikipedia if you need to get your science fix in!  As shocking as this may come to some of you, I don’t drink coffee every day. *Sits back and waits for the gasps* I normally drink tea in the mornings. Its ...

Tripping on Art

Image
For those who missed my last post, The Year is Now is out and available on Lulu.com! You can read about it here. Aside from getting everything ready for last week's debut, here is what I've been up to lately in the realm of art! I've been experimenting with my anime roots. Babylon 5 meets The Slayers  Psi Cop Xellos is working with the Shadows *gasp!*  Elly from The Year is Now as an anime character.    Alfred Bester from Babylon 5    I redrew an old self-insert Slayers character I had created 10 years ago, and this was the result.   Oh my! Bester and Talia, what are you two doing!?   Wooden peg doll Xellos is ready to beam up.
